Stuntman Mohan Raj Passes Away During Filming of Pa Ranjith’s Vettuvam
A tragic incident has struck the sets of director Pa Ranjith’s upcoming project, Vettuvam, currently being filmed in Nagapattinam. Stunt performer Mohan Raj, fondly known in the film industry as Raju, passed away on Sunday following a heart attack after a stunt sequence involving an SUV went wrong.
A Brave Artist Lost on Set
According to reports, Mohan Raj was performing a high-risk action scene where an SUV was expected to topple over a ramp. Viral visuals from the shoot show the SUV flipping mid-air during the stunt. Immediately after the scene, crew members noticed that Mohan Raj had fallen unconscious. Despite rushing him to a nearby hospital, he could not be revived.
Sources suggest that Mohan Raj had experienced chest pain earlier in the day, before filming the stunt. The incident has left the cast and crew devastated, and the film industry mourning the loss of a dedicated and fearless artist.

Actor Vishal expressed his grief on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), confirming the tragic news and offering heartfelt condolences. He reflected on his long-standing association with Raju and commended his fearless spirit and invaluable contributions to many films.
“So difficult to digest the fact that stunt artist Raju passed away while doing a car toppling sequence for Arya and Pa Ranjith’s film this morning,” Vishal wrote. “I have known Raju for so many years… I will definitely be there for his family’s future. God bless.”

Vettuvam is reportedly a gritty drama set largely in a prison, exploring themes of justice and survival. The plot centers around a rural gangster who surrenders to police to escape his enemies, only to find that the prison system is far more brutal than expected.
Pa Ranjith’s Neelam Studios is co-producing the project alongside Golden Ratio Films. The unique storytelling format will include a feature film followed by a series, where each episode delves into the life of a different character introduced in the movie.
