Sony’s Horizon Series Hits 38 Million Sales Worldwide

The Horizon franchise has reached impressive an milestone with total sales surprising 38 million. This figure recently surfaced through legal documents in a lawsuit filed by Sony marks a significant increase from the 32.7 million units reported in May 2023.

The franchise developed by Guerrilla Games and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment includes the critically acclaimed Horizon Zero Dawn its sequel Horizon Forbidden West and the VR title Call of the Mountain. While Sony has not released a detailed breakdown of current individual game sales earlier reports confirmed that Forbidden West had sold 8.4 million copies as of 2023. The game also launched on PC in March 2024 likely contributing to the series recent sales boost.

Interestingly, the legal case that revealed this updated figure involves Sony’s claims against Tencent’s Light of Motiram a game alleged to bear strong similarities to the Horizon series in terms of design and gameplay mechanics. Meanwhile fans of the franchise have more to look forward to. A third mainline entry is reportedly in development and Guerrilla Games is said to be collaborating with NCSoft on an online multiplayer project set in the Horizon universe. However, no official announcements have been made regarding either title.

Additionally, LEGO Horizon Adventures a spin off targeting a broader audience was announced recently though it’s unclear whether its sales are included in the latest total. With a compelling mix of storytelling open world exploration and unique sci-fi elements the Horizon series continues to be one of PlayStation’s most successful modern franchises. Its growing numbers and expanding universe suggest it’s far from finished.
