Xbox Game Pass Just Made Almost $5 Billion in a Year
Xbox Game Pass is bringing in serious money. Microsoft just shared that the subscription service made nearly $5 billion over the past year, setting a new record for the company. That number came straight from Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella during the company’s earnings call for its fiscal year ending June 30 2025. While he didn’t give the exact figure saying nearly $5 billion tells us just how big Game Pass has become for Xbox.

Xbox Game Pass Keeps Growing
We haven’t gotten a new official subscriber count since February 2024 when Game Pass hit 34 million members. But in May 2025 a Microsoft employee’s profile hinted the number might now be closer to 35 million. That’s not confirmed but it wouldn’t be surprising given how much content has been added recently.
Big Games Big Money
A big part of Game Pass’s success this year came from a strong lineup of new first party games. In the last few months alone subscribers got access to:
- The Elder Scrolls Oblivion: Remastered
- Doom The Dark Ages
- Indiana Jones and the Great Circle
These games dropped on Game Pass on day one giving players instant access without paying full price exactly the kind of value fans love.
Price Hike? No Problem.
Game Pass prices went up last July but that didn’t seem to slow things down. People are clearly still seeing the value especially with all the big games being added.
Hardware Sales Down, But Services Up
While Xbox console sales were down 22% year over year Xbox’s content and services revenue jumped 13%. That tells us players are spending less on hardware and more on digital content and Game Pass is leading the charge.
Why It Matters
Game Pass has gone from being a cool perk to becoming the heart of Xbox’s gaming strategy. With close to $5 billion in revenue this past year, it’s clear Microsoft’s focus on subscriptions and first-party content is paying off. As the gaming world continues to shift toward digital services Xbox Game Pass is setting the pace and it doesn’t look like it’s slowing down anytime soon.
